Document Summary

Attachment: ongoing process of establishing and maintaining an emotional bond with parents or other significant care givers, typically between the ages of 6 and 12 months. This bond provides infants with a secure base from which to explore and learn about their world. First model of a relationship is parents; if at a very young age, parents are not around, they develop insecurities about attachment. Interactions between the infant and caregiver; feeding, changing etc. Caregiver attachment dictates how you will see future relationships. *attachment parenting is a trend right now; this is not the same thing as attachment as seen in this class; ex. Breastfeeding for far too long, co-sleeping, baby-wearing (carrying babies everywhere you go), not leaving children or allowing anyone else to care for the baby - way overboard. Failure of caregiver to meet the infant"s needs promptly, consistently, and with warmth. Sometimes, babies have difficulty communicating (ie. crying/ expressing hunger), which can also lead to insecure attachment.
