Sexual violence manifests in 2 ways: sexual harassment and unwanted sexual advances between strangers or acquaintances. Not illegal in the usa until 1964. The legal de nition was issued in 1980. Make to include a quid pro quo and hostile environment harassment (unwanted physical or verbal gestures) It is primarily perpetrated by men who hold hostile or benevolent sexist views (ie, women should be homemakers) Sex role spillover: gender-based expectations are brought into the workplace. This increases when the ratio of men to women is high. Women in the military report more sexual harassment and assault than in any other sector. Many more women then men are assaulted, despite the unequal ratio participating in the military. Most assaults were of unwanted sexual touching. Pryor et al (1995) tested the idea that not all men are harassers by showing two videos: (1) a man complimenting a woman without touching, (2) compliment with touching.
