Being female: adulthood to aging: women"s roles. Women were also responsible for caring for elderly family members, and like children, it was considered natural. This lead to the coined term woman in the middle as she is responsible for taking care of a family member while also responsible as a wife and mother. This meant that many women have to cut back on full-time work to look after their family, and the left over work is largely left up to her daughters (to leave mother to take care of everyone). It was believed that women tend to get satisfaction from looking after elderly family. Satisfaction from ful lling responsibilities, they"ve been looked after, now its their turn. However, this added responsibility causes stress and strain to women in the middle, as they are trying to balance family life, career, and taking care of extra family member: adulthood to aging: problems. Age cohort: super cial groupings, general statement regarding that era.
