Less than 5% of first year undergraduate students thought engaging in behaviours that did not include genital touching was considered sex . More likely to define sexual activity as sex if it included mutual genital touching and orgasm. Different definitions to sex can be an obstacle for sex education and sti prevention. The norm of penis-in-vagina sex has been traditionally considered the standard by heterosexual couples. This article defines sex as any solo or partnered activity involving behaviours that are an expression of sexual arousal and/or desire that also results in subjective and physical feelings of arousal and desire . Factors that play into a later age of first having sex: positive emotional connections with family members, parental disapproval of early sex/contraceptive use, greater parental control. Factors that play into an earlier age of first having sex: greater peer pressure, substance use with friends, having an older partner, prior experience of unwanted sexual contact.
