People don"t have formal de nition for love, but list certain features as characteristic of love: caring, happiness, acceptance, and trust. Sexual attraction, desire, and trust are mentioned often as central to romantic love. Passionate love: consists of intense longing, preoccupation with, and idealization of the loved one (cognitive components) Emotional component is desire for your love to be reciprocated. Companionate love: consists of warmth and affection, based on deep friendship that is comfortable and trusting. Individuals who are intensely in love show increased activity in the reward and motivation center of the brain, and decreased activity in the brain areas controlling social judgment and emotions such as grief and fear. Same brain centres activated as when people take cocaine.
