Chapter 12: ----- the family and the world of work. Not working as much as we use to. One family, two income - the new reality. More and more families affected by interplay between work and family responsibilities. A significant societal trend is increase in number of women employed outside the home. In contrast, labour force participation rate among men aged 15 and over has been declining slowly. Men and women are both working closer to the same amount. Women follow one of four different life paths: Plan a traditional marriage but end up working. Always wanted careers, reluctant to become mothers and homemakers. Planned to have careers, but circumstances prevented this. Good marriage dynamic that allows discussion for what they want. Ability of woman"s partner to earn enough so she can stay home. Hard housework has been reduced through introduction of technologies. This has made household work different rather than less.
