Over the past 50 years, the science of gerontology (study of aging from maturity through old age), has flourished. Negative stereotypes like ageism is a form of discrimination against older adults based on their age. Aging is a lifelong process, meaningful that human development never stops. Many skills can be learned or improved with practice, even later in life. Demographics of aging: the numbers of increased dramatically during the 20th century because of better health care and the lowering of women"s mortality during childbirth. Psy3128: through the first few decades of this century, older adults will be a major economic and political force. Population trends around the world: the oldest area of the world will continue to be europe; italy had the worlds highest % of oa, youngest area is africa, apocalyptic demography are the same. Intergenerational inequality conflict will result from this overuse.
