One of the major interests of researchers in this field is whether general impairment leads to language impairment. Lots of interest as it"s mostly clinical interest, but also for basic research purposes and this is whether general impairment lead to lang impairment. Domain general (domain specific or domain generality) 50-70 mild; 35-50 moderate; 20-35 severe (iq) 70 cutoff - if you are 2 standard deviations below the pop you have an intellectual disability. If you"re diagnosed, then often you have another one as well. Having one disability has a higher chance in having another disability as a result of the first one. Problem with info processing, cannot store and organize language efficiently; cannot generalize; poor memory. If we believe in domain generality, then you will have lang issues if you have an intellectual disability. Delayed; just simply slower at getting to the same milestones because of your impairment. Deviant; take an entire diff road to get there.
