Suicidal gesture: apparent suicide attempt, with clearly non-lethal means. Suicidal ideation: thoughts and/or plans related to dying. Non-suicidal self-injury: self-harm without intent to die. What disorders do you think about when you think about suicide: depression, borderline pd, ptsd, bipolar disorder, substance use disorder, eating disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, physical conditions. >90% of people who commit suicide have a psychological disorder. The majority of people with a psychological disorder do not attempt suicide: risk factors, protective factors, prevention options. 15-24 yr. old first nations & inuit men: 5-6x risk. Lowest rates: nfld & on: men tend to choose much more lethal methods of suicide.
