Mental disorders don"t tend to be diagnosed after the age of 60. Aging is thought to have it"s won thing going on. Mental disorders are more common in younger adults, exception sleep disorders are less common in older than younger. If diagnosed when young, they will still have it when they are older: ex: depression and alzheimer"s will not remember depression. Young adults should sleep 10-12 hours a night. Older people need better sleep not longer sleep. Diagnostic issues: co-morbidity high blood pressure, stroke, heart conditions, diabetes type ii, Parkinson"s, arthritis: polysubstance/ polypharmacy can complicate diagnosis of mental disorders, some drugs will react, can make the other drugs stronger or weaker. Need a good pharmacist since people doctor shop. Primary insomnia can"t get to sleep or can"t stay asleep: 12-50% Nocturnal myoclonus restless leg syndrome: 25-60, twitching, often wakes them up.
