The degree to which the patient is going to carry out what the healthcare provider recommends that you do. Another term = compliance: has a reluctant over tone. What does it mean to adhere to medical advise: may mean taking medication, if not adhering, not following the advise, different ways to not adhere. Can help with lifestyles: not smoking, getting enough sleep etc. Non adherence = creative non adherence: intentionally modifying the advise, supplementing the recommended treatment, usually about a particular health problem, can decide to treat some things themselves. Ex home remedy or over the counter medication. Sometimes it can be useful: some illnesses its okay to play around. To study we have to have some way of measuring it. How to asses: may be to ask the health care professional to estimate how they are doing. Sometimes can over estimate: can ask the patient. Also over estimate how they are doing.
