Document Summary
Attention can be working spatially (location-based) or it can be used to detect a specific object, or specific parts of an object (object-based) When focusing on an object, you are going to be getting more info from that object than any other object around it. Target cue is a potential location of where the stimulus is going to appear. If target appears where the cue is, reaction time is faster. If cue appears anywhere within the same triangle, reaction time is faster. When you pay attention to one part of an object, you do not ignore other parts of the same object. You don"t fully ignore other stimuli, but you are less likely to perceive info from other areas that are not focused on (less processing) Object-based attention allows us to make sense of an object and its features. Attention is important in retrieving important spatial info: also important in creating ltm. So perhaps attention is potentially space-based oriented.
