Kids still may be engaging in everyday activities, mostly because kids are under control of adults and lack autonomy. Doesn"t look like staying in bed all day, lethargy that is seen in adults. If a child is suddenly more shy than usual. A lot of symptoms that look like a lot of other disorders. When kids get into adolescents we have depression that looks more like adult depression. Self-harm behaviours but more likely to be related to emotion regulation or an emerging personality disorder. Provenance is around 5% and more common in girls. The gender gap really increases in adolescence. Socialization element, girls are socialized to be more self-defeating. Change in hormones, estrogen is linked with depression. Self-esteem decreases so much more in girls than in boys. More of a contagion e ect and co-ruminate with others for girls. Girls are more likely to go in for diagnosis, boys shouldn"t show emotions so they don"t seek kelp.
