May not know that they are going to see a psychologists. Coping with life events, appraisal of events, physical status, cognitive abilities, behavioural skills, personality. Filter in different reports that do not line up. Multiple comorbidities, impacting many areas of functioning. Must impair the child"s functioning (often in more than one setting) Difficulty sleeping alone: 3 years old vs 11 years old. However, not alway the best source (overdiagnosis/socialization) Taijin kyofusho = fear of making others uncomfortable. Cultural considerations in dsm 5: cultural formulation interview. Normative/nomothetic: broad information/inferences that can apply to large groups of individuals. Idiographic: detailed information/inferences that are unique to the individual of family. Eg child has cystic fibrosis, fears negative evaluation from peers.
