Document Summary
We"re moving towards icd (international classification diagnosis) Multi-axial system was removed in the dsm 5. But there are much more developmental considerations in many disorders. They have grouped disorders as neurodevelopmental (autism, learning disabilities, communication, adhd etc. ) The disorders that are more dimensional (autism, eating disorders, schizophrenia) Children can be now diagnosed with many more disorders. Icd (current is 10) 11 should be coming out soon. Less of a checklist, allows for a grey area (helpful for kids) Pro labels only helpful it allows for an informed treatment. Key the diagnosis needs to be accurate. The diagnosis doesn"t allow consideration of the big picture (for kids, school life, family life matters) Does not put the emphasis on contextual and situational factors. Goals of an assessment: describe the symptoms and diagnose if relevant, case conceptualization (look at context) tell a story and prognosis, 3. look at what could happen with or without help/treatment.
