Nereah Felix, Olivia Provenzano, Khloe Medeiros, Ana Ignat
What does sex signify for men?
Test of manhood
Masculinity
Sexual maturity
Power
But, no matter the amount of money, status, or power, sexual dysfunctions donā€™t discriminate
RQ
No focus on cognitive variables, most research is focused on drug therapies
Important to focus on cognitive variables because drugs have many unwanted side effects
-Ex. Dry eyes, UTIs, etc.
Sexual Dysfunction
Highly prevalent in men: 10-52% will experience it at one point in their life
Focus on older men
Lower education = less pleasurable sexual experience, increased levels of sexual anxiety
Effectiveness of therapy is largely inadequate: good long-term outcomes for erectile dysfunction but not for premature
ejaculation
Many men suffer fro multiples sexual problems that have been in place for many years
Non-married men report signiļ¬cantly higher rates for list symptoms of sexual dysfunctions
Short-term cognitive behavioural treatment is only effect with about half of respondents, least effective for arousal and
desire cases
SD associated with:
-Poor self-esteem and well-being
-Marital distress
-Lower general happiness
