Document Summary
Definition of learning: learning involves a change in the potential to do something. When we acquire information we don"t necessarily show it. We may or may not do it, but with learning we have the potential to do it. It"s a relatively enduring change ability isn"t only about one time but relatively enduring change to the nature of the behavior. It results from our experience with environmental events (nurture part of the equation). We learn as we have experiences with our environment. As it changes, we need to adapt to survive. We enter the world with certain innate behaviors which we don"t have to learn (suckling, reflexes- turning/grasping) Learning is an interaction between preexisting behaviors and interactions with the environment. Elicited behaviors: behaviors that are automatically drawn out by a certain stimulus. Part of the baggage/innate behaviors we come into the world with. We will have different levels of behaviors with different levels of maturity.
