Document Summary

Can examine activity levels in rodents by exposing them to a running wheel in their cage and examine what time of the day they prefer running on the wheel. Most rodents are nocturnal so they are more active at night & rest during the day when the lights are on. Need to house them in a reversed cycle day = night, night = day. So we can see them being active when we are active. At night for us, we turn o the lights for them. Can give them a bracelet that records activity level actigraphy. Taller spikes before and after the blue regions. Exogenous factors: outside of the organism / body. Ex: mechanisms that mediate many of the observed rhythms in physiology and behaviour. Important they are synchronized and work together. The synchronizing of the 2 factors is really important. Biological rhythms that are not synchronized w/ environmental cues are said to be free-running.
