Course basics:
- What is sociology? Latin socius, companion logos, thought or reason
- Humans inhabit, humans and social environment, study societies using
empirical investigation and critical analysis
Sociology: the systematic study of human society and social interaction, and how
behavior is shaped. Individuals have an impact on the society, how society impacts
the individual that we inhabit
The sociological imagination, the ability to see the relationship between the
individual experiences and the larger society
Value free; don’t make judgment calls, objective
Can we predict that certain age groups will react a certain way, things will happen
based on other aspects
