Family is the first agent of socialization it is a social. Not the same thing as a social group. Institution made of rules and standardized rules of doing something. Talking about standardized patterns of behaviour that define families. Specific families do not always conform to these behaviours. A study found most canadian said family is the most important things in their life. Significant increase of divorced families, single parent families, single sex marriage, Difficult to explain what a family is. Cannot say family is made of mom and dad this does not account same sex. Nuclear family/subnuclear does not account for extended family that may live under the same roof. Cannot say related by bonds of blood and marriage doesn"t include adopted, partners with kids who aren"t married. Biological parents have never hand picked their children. Children considered a gift of life, a blessing or a curse, with little or no choice.
