Reviews it as a personal illness - responsibility is placed on the person not on the other social forces that may have been a factor. Those who deviate have different characteristics from those who conform characteristics from those who conform. Deviant folks are said to have specific characteristics that make them different. Deviance is caused by forces beyond an individuals control. Positivists tend to be interested in why people violate norms. In a given society, there exists a general set of norms of behavior, conduct and conditions that everyone agrees upon. Mutually agreed upon rules of behaviour that guide our actions. Everyday norms: basic mannerisms or activities that don"t generate much uproar when violated, but may be considered rude.
