Why study social theory - to understand how our society works and make it better (very complex) Social theories suggest that we have been fed knowledge that we eat up . Social theories all us to challenge this knowledge. Unit 1: foundational theoretical traditions: liberalism, marxism & weberian theory, competing visions of the dynamic forces at work within society, links to political movements that have shaped history, their legacy. Unit 2: building on foundations, charting new territory: feminist socio-political thought, critical race theory, cultural marxism. Unit 3: post-everything: post- structuralism, post- modernism, post- colonial theory, theorizing globalization. At some point there was no human society, human society emerged and changed over time.
