SOC2112 Lecture 11 Review: Sociology started with A. Comte where he argued that society is a living organic that  requires each part of the society support and influent each other. Then we have Marx Emile Durkheim (1858­1917)  1887­Goes to Bordeaux where he teaches a course in sociology (study German  sociology)  1896­Sets up a sociology Dept. at Bordeaux (He get the PHD and the school  hires him as a professor. He was given the resources to build the department) 1902­Goes to the Sorbonne (Paris) where he sets up a Sociology Dept. (He is   given another resources to build his second Sociology Dept. It is called sociology  and science) ­­Why government wants Durkheim?   Because of Comte, there are natural laws of the society that limit what you can do.  French knew that you couldn’t only image the world.  Social Context ­­Like Comte, he saw society as being in a state of crisis:  1789­The working classes rallied to the side of the capitalist (The great French  Revolution) ­­Remove the restriction on property so that economy will goes up. ­­Dictatorship on Napoleon so that France has the power again   1830­The ruling classes fight among themselves ­­Shift in term o
