Separation stage, margin (liminal) stage, and re- aggregation/reentry stage. He"s interested in the middle stage/liminal stage (in between) an inter-structural stage. These rites of passion culturally and socially function, for the individual and for the group, to manage the transition form one state to another. Part of the transition and managing the transition is the social status and category of member"s change, ad this change is socially recognized through rite of passage rituals. Ex, child entering manhood/womanhood, going from biological death to religious afterlife/rebirth, from single to married, etc. rites of passage help to deal with and manage changing states of individuals and statuses of individuals within a society. A boy attains the status of becoming a man in judaism.
