Document Summary

09/21/16 (4) old media/new media: what"s the difference? (cont. ) This was the first form of mass media in our society. However, it was not the first press that could print text. Because of the metal, production became much more significant and a greater number of texts could be produced. The ability to print text on a mass scale allowed for the copying of things to be easier. It altered the need to reproduce text on a one-to-one basis. The requirement for people to be literate was unimportant prior to the printing press because there was not as much of a need for people to know how to read and write. The consequences of the printing press are far more profound than we might have thought. Some even believe that they were greater than the consequences of the internet in its day. The printing press transformed the society of the time.
