Document Summary
Critical theory arose from the consequences of the war. When humanity entered modernity, we were expecting reason/rationality to guide every single action that we take. For every single action we except to go in our reason to make sure what we are doing is the most beneficial for human beings. The rise of technology questioned people"s means of action towards death. Critical theory is a critique of reason or modernity. Modernity and reason has failed us according to theorists that use this theory as reason was supposed to carve the path for a more harmonious and peaceful world but instead generated chaos. They are all german philosophers by training who came to age under the totalitarianism (nazism) was on the verge of conquering the world. It is strongly tied to the frankfurt school as it is within this university that critical theory emerged. They will host the first research centre dedicated to critiquing modernity.
