Societies - people that are connected by links (friendship, professional ties, family, etc) The brain - network of neuros connected by axons and cells, which themselves are networks of molecules. Food web/ecosystem - networks of species, relationship between predator and prey (dyads) Technology - most obvious network, has nodes and connections. Can go from web page to web page. Telecommunications systems - transmission grids, etc. the movement of electricity is dependent on a network. Inter state highway systems/ transportation systems - traveling and circulating within the bigger space of network. Language - words enter relationships with each other (makes sentences and they have meaning which point to other systems of production of meaning) Social network theory is a relational theory - its main concern is with the analysis of relations. Relations are external to their terms (david humme) This theory is interested in the relations, not the characteristics the objects posses.
