Hierarchy of creation (sacred works) shows god above humans, above animals, above nature. Small scale societies generally don"t have a hierarchal structure of beliefs. Humans are = deer = fish = bugs = plants = rocks = other humans. Everything is equal and has a role interdependent relationships. When things push against your values, what happens. Liminal / liminality: between states of being, between categories. We can"t figure them out this threatens us, threatens our structure. Example: a pregnant woman / woman on her period, in some societies is seen as powerful.
