Thought to have gained their powers through books and literature. You would self identify and royalty would often hire these people to decode the sky and protect heir kingdom. Astrology and astronomy were considered one unit until the last 300 years or so. Studied herbology and were often used as court doctors. The three magi or three wise men hail from magician. They know which star to follow due to the study of astrology/astronomy. Neither good nor evil or a mix of both. Classically do not have as much of a broad knowledge.
