Archaeology lays out the subfields of physical anthropology. Archaeology the study of material remains in order to describe and explain human behavior: studies specific material remains left behind by human behaviour, behaviour of non-human primates, 3 types of material remains: Remains of human activity pottery, ceramics, artifacts, etc. Four goals of archaeology: reconstruct human past across time and space. Key to archaeology is examining material remains of humans. We fundamentally look at when and where it was created: explain how and why the past occurred. Determine explanations for why and how things may have occurred in the past which is seen by looking at remains. Interpretation of cognitive and symbolic behaviours of the past. Explanation of human behaviours in the past and why and how it was the way it was. You must recognize things as items used by humans; items that functioned within a cultural system.
