The area people live in expands in population. Most dense areas are about a 6 hr. drive from the border. Landforms i. e. high elevation or not close to water source, people might not choose to live there. Social needs i. e. where your family lives. Transportation i. e. living close to rivers is beneficial for those who need to transport stuff (use boats) The manner in which a particular group organized its settlements and occupied its geographic space. Archaeologically, a settlement pattern appears as a system of interrelated sites. When we talk about settlement pattern, the pattern within one site is also a component of settlement archaeology. Settlement archaeology is the study of ancient settlement patterns and how they changed overtime. If they find a good land for farming, they want to stick around for as long as they can. For farming societies, the population density tends to increase. Through material remains they can see the relationships.
