Document Summary

Relationship between wolves and moose on isle royale - studied for 57 years. For most of the year, isle royale is a rather close area. The population can only grow or decrease by birth or death. The only time this is not true is winter - in severe winters, lake superior freezes and animals can cross. That"s how we think moose and wolves establish themselves on the island. Not everything is explained however e. g. population crash in wolves before 1979 - not explained by just the graph. But you can see as the predator increases the prey decreases. Lots of variability in annual survival across years. Mean soi - mean standard oscillation index (weather patterns) Oceanographic - how different from an avg year is the data plotted. Notice that the mean soi and jamaica are closely matching. Maybe particular temperature/weather is important for the bird"s survival. Migratory patterns was shown not to be affected in prev slides.
