John talbot was one of the first to explore the newfoundland shorelines. You could fish cod easily just by dropping a bucket. It"s a nice fish with low parasites you can do anything with it for a variety of dishes. People came to europe to come fish because of abundance. The unthinkable happened (cod moratorium: "the biggest layoff in canadian history") - 1992, we ran out of fish5. People did not expect fish to run out because there were so many, but in 1992 fisheries were closed. There was an outrage because there were whole communities that depended on fishing. We now have an ocean that is utterly empty of fish. There"s a small area where fishermen were allowed to fish. Cod is really hard to fish farm- they start to each other when they get really close to each other. One of the north sea is a source for cod.
