Document Summary

Lecture 2 preparation of the female reproductive tract. If ovulation does not occur, then the mature follicle with start to be atretic and eventually form a small scar (late atretic follicle) If the mature follicle ruptures (during ovulation), then the oocyte will be released from the follicle. Ruptured follicle corpus luteum (consist of granulosa and theca cells) Corpus luteum will produce progesterone making the uterine wall thicker to help with implantation. Corpus luteum will continue to grow; if fertilization happens, corpus luteum will be to produce the estrogen needed in the early 3 pregnancy. Progesterone will be responsible to help with the secretory phase (maturation) of the uterus. Role of many follicle is to produce as much estrogen as possible for the mature follicle. By the action of fsh and lh, set of ovarian follicles begin to mature and produce estrogen, which induce target cells to produce progesterone receptors. One follicle becomes mature and the other will be atretic.
