Serif (the little accents on each letter) San serif - doesn"t have the accents on every letter. Font: one instance of a typeface (i. e. times bold 9 point) Johannes gutenburg - moveable type, printing press, oil-based ink, screw press, woodblock printing. There is a program called fontography where people actually create fonts. Matrices fall down from magazine chutes to the assembler. Matrices form a complete line of type. Hot lead slug is created and ejected into the gallery. Matrices are sent back up into the distributor box. Matrices dropped back into proper chutes for reuse. Legibility vs readability should only use uppercase for things like titles. Upper should only be used for short sentences or titles. Do not underline - it strikes through the descenders. Measured in points; 1 point = 1/72 of an inch. Therefore 12 points = 1 pica, 6 picas = 1 inch, 72 points = 1 inch.
