Importance of crime scene: establish links: victim, suspect, scene, object, generate leads, understanding the evidence itself, understanding behaviour, corroborating witness statements, scenes approached as if only opportunity to preserve and recover clues. Locard"s principle: every contact leaves a trace, by leaving something behind, by taking something away, both, we use these to make connections. Other important terms: chain of custody, breaks in the chain, one break in the chain can effect everything. "fruit of the poisonous tree: evidence admissibility, expert witness.
