External exam: recovery of trace evidence, evidence of injury. Wound pattern depends on local area struck and properties of projectile: penetrating or performing wounds, where to expect to find projectile. Indicators of suicide: gun held against skin, wound in mouth or temple of dominant hand. Indicator of homicide: gun fired from more than few inches away, an angle or location that rules out of self-infliction, shot through clothing, no weapon presents. Deaths generally result of significant damage to brain or damage to heart/aorta followed by bleeding out. Forensic odonatologist: based on teeth used for identification. Body relatively intact, presence of soft tissue. Not always the case with. : badly burned bodies, severe decomposition, pieces/dismemberment. Recovery of human remains and associated evidence. Time since death approximation: very difficult by looking at the bones. Assist with cause and manner of death: only with forensic pathologist. Focus on the lectures: up to end of death investigation.
