GGR112H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Humid Continental Climate, Mesothermal, Microthermal
Document Summary
Define climate and climatology, and review the principal components of. Spacial expressions: latitude, insolation, continentality, ocean currents, exposure to cyclonic systems, prevailing wind direction, albedo of surface, vegetation coverand many others. Describe the genetic and empirical climate classification systems, list the main categories of world climates. Describe the ko ppen climate classification system, and locate the regions characterized by each climate type on a world map. Genetic classification are those based on the cause of the climate. A genetic system relies on information about climate elements like solar radiation, air masses, pressure systems, etc. The important point here is that we assume we know what causes climate. Tropical monsoon climate (am) progressing everyday, we still have a long way to go before we have a complete understanding of the workings of our climate. These are inherently the most difficult classifications to create and use because of the multitude of variables needed.
