Document Summary

Trade area delimitation - process of identifying the spatial limits of a market population served by a retail or commercial facility (i. e. boundary between people shopping at a store or not) It is the spatial extent of customers around an individual store of a network of stores. This is known as market area of customer catchment area. Trade area delimitation is also viewed as a way of mapping the confines of interaction between a set of store locations and the customers that patronize them. Factors that affect trade area size and shape: Transportation network (i. e. people will not travel more than 15 minutes to get to a. Walmart, this can change based on methods of travel) These factors can be used to provide information for trade area analysis. Assess existing stores performance (why they are/are not doing well) Normative based approaches - assume normal consumer behaviour.
