A lot of the problems, resentment that gave rise to the war came in 1934. There are a lot of grievances and past problems that became driving forces for modern political ideas and social policies. A consequence to colonial encounter for the east was the rise of a challenge or question of whether or not the east could match up or catch up . China still feels like they"re the victim from past grievances. The effect of these past grievances and china"s attitude toward japan, along with china"s growing power makes modern japan feel victimized. Up until the 19th century, and even into the 19th century, china was doing fine. The qing dynasty (manchurian state) was probably the greatest economic state in the world at its time (around 1644) China did not have a great demand for anything foreign. Because of how strong it was economically, all the necessary and considered luxury items was produced within the manchu state.
