Westphalian state (modern state) gets its name from a treaty signed post war. A population living in a specific geographical area. Ex a geographically large state is russia (1/10th of land on the planet) Massively large populace states like china, india, russia. Tiny states are called microstates and are still considered a nation when compared to places like russia despite their size. Ex country of nauru (10000 people), small island in the pacific, and monaca with a population of 30000 and is twice the size of the utm campus (smallest nation in the world) Government: have some kind of gov"t structure to create and implement policies. To be considered a state, the entity requires internal and external sovereignty. O internal = gov"t has the final decision making authority within its territory (final word), this power extends to all ways of life.
