Document Summary
Everything up and to and including today (week 5) Student number, name, and who your ta is. Only statements can be viewed as truth claims and all statements can be viewed as truth claims. Figuring out whether a statement actually is true involves verification. Proving it false: the truth is falsified. Proving it true: the truth claim is verified. If you can"t prove either: it is undetermined. If something isn"t a truth claim, it cannot be a premise. See if premises are acceptable instead of guaranteed to be true. Non-empirical truth claims come in 3 varieties: Analytic truths: not ones you go out in the world to see if true. Normative: can attempt to appeal to general principles about what makes an action right or an artwork great. If it is, you can seek to verify/falsify based on the world and examining experience of the world.
