Motivation refers to the moving force that energizes behavior: direction or goal of motives, strength of motives. Motives reflect biological needs & psychosocial needs: biological = using the bathroom, breathing, sleep, will be met involuntarily if not addressed, psychosocial = company, human contact. Evolution says motives lie where the best possibility to reproduce lies: yet some people perform acts that specifically target their procreating, q- do they lack the motivation trait, a- no. Our cortex allows us to process info and determine motives. Motivation depends on need: ex: using the bathroom isn"t priority until you are about to defecate yourself. Social motives in humans: ex: all that"s been done in the name of love for another person or country, religion, culture. Believes humans are special because we can contemplate our own mortality: we can find our special meaning, the meaning of life. Maslow says the meaning of life is to find your special purpose, (living an honest and genuine life)
