Document Summary

Chapter 7 - human memory. Monday, november 9, 2015. Memory is subjective like a recording system. Nothing more than a storage of our perceptions. Can be bias if the info isn"t coded correctly. We only remember what we pay attention to (and that derives a award) We put the info into the hippocampus but there"s holes in the story so u make it up. Memory is the process by which we observe, store, and recall information. Memories may be visual, auditory, or tactile. Memory processes may involve multiple systems. Conscious - we"re always monitoring the env for threat at all times. Attention: memory goes where attention flows. Recognition of meaning - automatically ignoring irrelevant stuff (ie. someone"s foot moving) Levels of processing (capital letters, what color, etc ) Involves repetition (capital letters, what color, etc ) Shallow processing - structural encoding - taking in information in one quarter of a second bc it had no relevance to you.
