Infants perceive sounds prior to birth and can even differentiate between different types of auditory stimuli by week 34 of gestation. Infants hear well, though not quite as accurately as adults. Sound pitches in the range of human speech. Smallest pattern that can be dependable distinguished. Newborns and 1 month olds see at 1 meter what an adult sees at 60-120 meters. Acuity improves rapidly from one month to one year.
