Document Summary

Make use of cross cultural research methods- compares human behaviours across two or more cultures. We need it because the traditional classic focus of psychology makes an assumption that we need to challenge- assumes that the mind operates via a set of universal principles that are independent of context. Can separate the mind from culture- doesn"t matter which culture you are born or immigrate to (this is not the case) People from different cultures have different ways of deriving meaning from the world and events that take place. We don"t all see the world in the same way. You cannot separate mind from culture - they both influence each other. Ex: taxi drivers in london had different structure of hippocampus (complex streets)- experience can change structures in the brain. The more you think about a concept the more you talk about the concept and the more richly developed it becomes.
