The most disabilities found in schools are specific learning disabilities. These may be environmental disabilities, adhd for example, only come up in the context of the school system. Our level of society requires a certain level of education , this leads to a social component of disability. Laws that guarantees that students and children have the right to access free and public and appropriate education. Bill-82 is the canadian (ontario) version of the idea: the placement of children with disabilities in educational programs should be non- discriminatory and a multi-disciplinary assessment. Labeling allows us to know something about the child, have a better idea of what we have to do to help the child. This could also be self-limiting and people"s perception would affect them. Labeling also allows eligibility, general education is designed around the average child. Most kids will benefit and pass that curriculum, top 105 and bottom 10% they might not benefit from the general curriculum.
