Test does not cover chapter 5, 6. 1. 5 hours: around 25 multiple choice, at least 4 short answer questions (max 6) In order for an animal to learn it must have some form of memory. Need to distinguish between episodic (memory of event as it occurs) versus semantic. Typically the best way to test animals memory is asking if they remember what they saw. Answer you get depends a lot of the task you use to test that memory. Decrease in response to stimulus over time. Does not necessarily reflect awareness when you habituate something you are less aware of it. Introduce rat to novel environment that contains 3 parts. Animals usually pay less attention to something that is they are used to having in their environment.
