Document Summary

Chronic schizophrenia is not so common (where symptoms are present all the time), but acute is (where episodes come and go) Dsm4 dsm5 the latest version took out the types of schizophrenia and says there are not different types. Is called a psychosis: loss of touch with reality, and are not able to interact with reality functionally most common form of psychosis. This shows that this is a neurochemical/ biological disorder. Rate: 1/100 not to rare, close to a million people have it. In 1996 221000 canadians were diagnosed, more now with our increasing population. The people are dysfunctional (they cannot care for themselves, nay be disruptive, difficult, we have to care for them) Our constitution says we have the obligation to care for one another, but people also have the freedom to live their own life. But if they are causing a problem to others we can intervene, but if they live on the streets it"s not harming anyone.
