Psy340: lecture 10: personality disorders: june 13, 2017. Axis 2 is a manageable permanent condition which won"t go away or be cured. Hard to manage: you can manage it, but it"s not treatable. Dsm 4 put this on axis 2, is permanent and cannot be treated. Extreme patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving (personality traits) that deviate from a person"s culture) Often ego-syntonic: person may not see a problem in themselves: what"s the difference b/w eccentric and a personality disorder this is hard to define what makes someone different and what makes it a disorder. Begin early in life and remain stable: not contextual or transient. Social motivation: maladaptive needs for power and affiliation: power over other people. Cognitions: unrealistic self-image (i. e. i"m more superior, incorrect evaluation of relationships (i. e. (s)he loves me) Classification: 10 disorders organized into 3 cluster (dsm 4, dsm 5 has taken away the clusters, but have the same disorders)
